Buying luxury second-hand

Buying second-hand luxury jewellery from a stranger on a lambda platform is quite risky. If you pay before you receive the jewellery, can you be sure that you will actually receive it? How can you be sure of its quality? But if you hand it over personally, where are you going to meet the seller? How will you pay? In cash? The jeweller may give you a higher price, but will usually refer you to a dealer who buys in cash, but at a rather low price.
