Why invest in signed jewellery?
Investing in signed second-hand jewellery: a serious bet ... for pleasure
Sometimes you want to invest in something that you can enjoy... but that will increase in value over time! With the price of luxury goods on the rise, and ever-increasing demand for increasingly limited production resources, it's time to take a step back, investing in signed jewellery is a sure thing ! What's more, a piece of jewellery is eternal - it wears very little over time. That's where second-hand comes into its own.
Our expert Charlotte de Heritage Jewellery In this post, we explain why it's a good idea... Of course, you need to choose the jewellery you invest in carefully, because some brands and models are more popular than others. Here we explain how to invest in a signed jewel !
Prices and demand for signed pre-owned jewellery are rising steadily
#1 - A signed piece of jewellery increases in value every year: The major luxury brands increase their prices each year by between 3 and 8% (for example, the Cartier love bracelet increased by 6.8% in 2023, i.e. an increase in the new price of 500 euros over 1 year. And over 6 years, its increase is around 30%). So when you invest in a piece of signed jewellery, its price will naturally rise, since its market price is based on the new price. If you bought second-hand, let's say at -30% from the new price, after 5 years the jewel will have increased in value from 20 to 30%. Before investing in a piece of signed jewellery, make sure you have all the information you need, or get someone to help you: you need to choose the right piece of jewellery to invest in, because some brands and models are more popular than others.
#2 - Demand for signed jewellery is the most dynamic on the market : The jewellery market is a resilient one, with sales of signed jewellery showing the strongest growth (8 to 10% per year, compared with 1 to 3 % for jewellery in all segments combined). Investing in signed jewellery is therefore less risky than investing in anything else.
Why is this? There is a "luxuryification" effect on jewellery: from heritage jewellery or jewellery for a special occasion, jewellery is becoming an essential luxury accessory where the brand and the model are key elements. Jewellery houses are communicating more, reinforcing their icons, and fashion houses are making jewellery their own. People buy jewellery for themselves, for pleasure, and even once a year.
#3 - A piece of jewellery can be restored to near-new condition: Jewellery has a rare quality: it can "become new again". There is no risk of it breaking down, or of irreparable stains or damage, as is the case with a luxury watch or piece of leather goods, which are nonetheless considered to be indisputable investment vehicles. With little wear and tear on the materials, no need to overhaul the mechanics, and renovation to near-new condition, it's the perfect investment item, so don't hesitate to invest in a signed jewel.
#4 - Building Assets : Just like a work of art or a watch, jewellery can be a worthwhile investment, provided you choose your jewellery carefully, have it appraised properly and buy it at a fair price (beware of prices that are too low, which may conceal a defect). It is advisable to insure your jewellery properly and keep it in a suitable safe (bank safe or sealed personal safe). If you prefer to enjoy them on a daily basis, consider having them checked by a professional from time to time to check the settings and clean them.
We don't even mention it, but buying a piece of jewellery is much nicer than investing in shares! To convince you, we encourage you to discover our new jewellery, guaranteed authentic below. Let yourself be tempted by the chance to invest in a signed piece of jewellery!
