Jewellery History
Quilted is an emblematic motif that has been undeniably linked to the House of Chanel since 1955 and is instantly recognisable. Graphic and textured, it is based on the principle of quilting in stitched diamonds, probably inspired by the jackets worn by the weavers or jockeys at the racecourses Coco Chanel frequented, or the cushions on the sofa in her flat. The iconic 2.55 bag was born in February 1955. The number 2.55 therefore represents the month and year of its creation, and later lent itself to jewellery with the quilted collection and, more recently, Coco Crush.
